Uniswap Labs has released TJAR, an open-source tool that lets applications convert the fees they collect into a token of their choosing, The Block reported on Oct. 29. Robinhood is the first integration partner, and Uniswap says more will follow.

TJAR grows out of Token Jar, the system Uniswap built for its own protocol fees. According to Uniswap, it processed more than $15.3 million in conversions in September. Apps that collect fees often end up holding thousands of different tokens across several chains, and until now teams have usually had to build their own systems to consolidate them.

How it works

An app picks the token it wants and sets an amount. Searchers can then pay that amount through a contract called a Releaser to withdraw assets from the jar, according to Uniswap's documentation. The jar does not set prices itself: searchers decide whether a deal is worth taking, and the payment goes to the recipient the app named.

In Uniswap's own case, UNI is sent to a burn address. Other apps can pick any token and destination. Setup takes a single transaction, and operators can change the token, price or recipient at any time or lock the settings permanently. Uniswap DAO governance can add an optional protocol fee to TJAR, but none is set today.

Robinhood already runs TJAR on every chain it supports for fees collected through the Uniswap API. The fees are converted as they come in, and Robinhood receives them in USDC and USDG. Uniswap's trading protocols also run on Robinhood Chain, and its web app, wallet and API support Robinhood's stock tokens.

TJAR is live on seven chains, with code, deployment addresses and audit reports available to developers. With the release, a tool Uniswap first built for its own fee flows becomes available to other businesses.
