Tether has set up the Financial Access and Systemic Empowerment (FASE) Foundation, a Swiss nonprofit that will work on scam prevention, support for survivors of human trafficking and the use of stablecoins in humanitarian aid, the USDT issuer announced this week.

Industry partners named in reports by The Crypto Basic, Crypto Economy and PANews include Kraken, Chainalysis, Anchorage Digital, the Solana Foundation and Bybit. The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime is involved as a strategic partner and will provide technical advice, according to Crypto Economy.

The first programs are already defined. A pilot with Prosper Global will test whether stablecoins can make aid distribution more transparent and efficient; it could reach up to one million people but is still in development. A partnership with Goodwall will provide digital education and scam-prevention tools to as many as 10 million young people, mainly in Africa, Latin America and Southeast Asia.

Cybercrime prevention work is set to extend across Africa, Asia and Central America. Tether also plans to back organizations that directly assist trafficking survivors, working alongside a specialized UN fund. Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino said the foundation aims to widen access to protection, assistance and financial services for communities left outside the banking system.

Issuers as gatekeepers

The launch puts Tether's compliance tools at the center of its public profile. The company's ability to blacklist addresses was on display a day later, when it froze more than 1.567 billion USDT linked to the Binance hack, according to CoinDesk. Partners such as Chainalysis, a blockchain analytics firm, are typically involved in tracing illicit funds of this kind.

The announcements did not disclose how much funding Tether or its partners will commit, how the foundation will be governed, or when the aid pilot will go live. Those details will determine whether FASE becomes an operational program or remains largely a coordination platform.
