Telegram is introducing Money, its native self-custodial wallet previously known as Gram Wallet, to a wider audience inside the messenger. The wallet is designed for storing and sending Gram, the TON network's token, and for buying Telegram gifts and collectible usernames. The announcement describes a rollout to Telegram's more than one billion users, though availability by platform and region has not been independently confirmed.
The launch has been staged. Pavel Durov said on August 31 that the wallet was ready for a limited group, after TON validators approved a smart contract that allows future upgrades without users moving funds or changing addresses. Private keys stay on the user's device, and Telegram cannot freeze, reverse or recover transactions. The wallet is part of Durov's seven-step Make TON Great Again plan.
Telegram's earlier Wallet app was rebranded as Walt on September 28. Walt offers trading, peer-to-peer transfers, tokenized stocks and ETFs, perpetual futures and Earn programs across more than 300 assets. According to the announcement, users can move Gram from Walt to Money instantly and without network fees on that route, while external blockchain transfers may still carry fees.
Walt has warned that scammers may impersonate support staff after the rebrand. It says balances, deposit addresses and security settings are unchanged, no migration or re-verification is required, and its representatives will never ask for recovery phrases or tell users to move funds to a new address.
