Mirae Asset Securities' Hong Kong unit has issued six-month U.S. dollar floating-rate notes as tokens on the Solana blockchain, with Singapore-regulated Marketnode acting as authorized distributor, the firm announced on Oct. 28.
The notes were issued under Mirae's $3 billion guaranteed structured note programme. That figure is the programme ceiling, not the size of this deal; Mirae did not disclose the issue amount, the coupon or the buyers. The notes were placed privately with professional investors as defined under Hong Kong's Securities and Futures Ordinance and are not authorized by or registered with the city's Securities and Futures Commission, according to CoinMarketCap.
Mirae handled token issuance, payments and lifecycle management on its own in-house infrastructure. Marketnode, a digital market infrastructure operator backed by Euroclear, HSBC, SGX Group and Temasek, handled distribution.
Distribution as the next step
Kelly Sohn, head of digital assets at Mirae Asset Securities, described the move into digitally native channels as a natural progression of the firm's focus on digital assets. Andrew Scott, head of digital assets at Marketnode, said the next stage of tokenization is about connecting existing products with new investors and channels rather than creating new ones. Lu Yin, head of Asia-Pacific at the Solana Foundation, said public blockchains become meaningful to capital markets when they support workflows institutions already use.
Mirae says the deal gives it a template it can extend to a broader range of structured products. Buyers still carry Mirae's credit risk, and BTCNews noted that the issue does not open the notes to ordinary Solana users. Secondary trading arrangements have not been disclosed.
The issuance lands in a busy week for institutional tokenization. Mirae Asset Securities (USA) is also among the 20 firms that signed up for the DTCC Tokenization Service, which went live on Oct. 28. Within the wider group, Mirae Asset Consulting acquired a controlling stake in Korean exchange Korbit in July.
