Cardano's Midnight opens privacy layer to Ethereum apps via Sig Network

Cardano-linked privacy chain Midnight now lets Ethereum apps shield balances and identities without bridging assets, via a Sig Network integration.

Midnight, the privacy-focused blockchain tied to Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson, has been connected to Ethereum through a partnership between the Midnight Foundation and Sig Network, The Crypto Basic reported on Oct. 29. Hoskinson welcomed Ethereum to the network in a short post on X after the integration was announced.

The setup lets Ethereum applications use Midnight's privacy tools while their assets remain on Ethereum. Sig's signing network allows a Midnight smart contract to control an Ethereum account, with transactions authorized by a threshold of independent signers. Because nothing has to be bridged or wrapped, apps can shield user balances, identities and transaction histories while still tapping established Ethereum services such as Uniswap and Aave.

The integration also includes selective disclosure and compliance controls, so an app can reveal only the information a counterparty or regulator needs. It is currently live on Midnight's stagenet, a pre-production environment, where it supports deposits, swaps on Uniswap, lending on Aave and withdrawals.

"What we're doing here is we're letting you take the best of Midnight and mix it with the best of Ethereum," Sig Network chief executive David Millar-Durrant said, according to the report.

Part of a multi-chain push

Ethereum is not the only network in Midnight's sights. Hoskinson gave a similar welcome to TRON, where private payments are targeted for December 2026, also using Nightmode, the Sig-powered framework behind the Ethereum link. Sig Network has invited developers on other chains, including Bitcoin, to contact the team about adding Midnight's privacy features.

The approach mirrors how Midnight launched its NIGHT token in 2025, through an airdrop to users on eight blockchains including Bitcoin, Ethereum and Solana. For Cardano's ecosystem, the bet is that Midnight can earn usage as a privacy service for larger chains rather than competing with them for liquidity. The key test will be when the Ethereum integration moves from stagenet to mainnet, for which no date has been given.
