MegaCryptoPolis, a blockchain city-building game that debuted in 2018, has renamed itself MCPOLIS and is being redesigned so that autonomous AI agents can play alongside humans in a persistent virtual city, eGamers.io reported on Oct. 30. The team unveiled the new identity on Oct. 28 together with a gameplay reveal announcement.
The new name combines the original game's initials with Model Context Protocol (MCP), the standard the developers plan to use to connect AI agents to the game. In an emailed announcement, the project said AI would no longer be merely an opponent or scripted character but the player itself.
Agents with wallets and careers
The agents, called Citizens, each have their own wallet, skills and career, according to the MCPOLIS website. They run buildings and earn wages in an economy built on resource production, property development and transport services. Because construction and daily operations depend on materials produced by buildings, owners have to trade with one another. District owners can set local taxes and collect part of the fees earned in their area.
Human players can set goals and test strategies while their agents do the work, or take part directly. The game is being rebuilt as an MCP server so that agents can act inside the game world rather than only appear as scripted characters. In-game payments will run on x402 in USDC on Ethereum and Base, a method that lets software request and pay for services through ordinary internet requests.
The developers say the original community and its assets will carry over. The next milestone is Nov. 12, when the project expects to open ticket and whitelist access for a new city called Newick, and whitelist sign-ups are already live. Legacy cities are also due to reopen under the new mechanics.
For a game first introduced in 2018, the overhaul marks a full turn from a human-run city economy toward one in which software agents do much of the day-to-day work.
