A home-scale bitcoin miner running FutureBit's Apollo solo setup has found block 973,262 and collected 3.154 BTC in subsidy and fees, Bitcoin Magazine reported on Oct. 29. The block, mined earlier this week, contained 2,477 transactions and is labelled "FutureBit Apollo Solo" on block explorers including mempool.space and blockchain.com.

According to FutureBit, an Apollo device or Solo Node running the company's built-in solo pool created the block template, handed out the work and submitted the finished block to the network. The public data do not reveal which hardware model was used or how much hashing power was behind it. The current Apollo III is rated at up to 18 TH/s in turbo mode and ships with an integrated full node.

FutureBit marked the win with a post on X presenting it as a block found by ordinary users rather than an industrial operator.

Long odds, repeated wins

With network hashrate recently around 1,070 to 1,087 EH/s, a single device producing 10 to 18 TH/s would, on average, wait centuries for a block at current difficulty, according to Bitcoin Magazine. Even so, this is at least the fourth block attributed to FutureBit Apollo Solo, following blocks 867,760, 881,423 and 888,737.

Another solo block was found the following day through the CKPool solo service, the publication said. Each attempt by a small miner is extremely unlikely to succeed, but the large number of hobbyist machines pointed at solo pools means wins still surface from time to time.

For individuals, solo mining works more like a lottery than a business. Supporters argue, however, that home miners who build their own block templates spread control over transaction selection beyond the largest pools. The find comes in a tough week for industrial operators, after difficulty rose 5.54% on Oct. 29 and hashprice slid toward three-month lows.
