Fiserv said on October 1 that its digital asset platform is live with financial institution clients. The first use case is Roughrider Coin, a dollar-backed stablecoin from the Bank of North Dakota designed to make money movement across the state's interbank network more efficient. VersaBank is the issuer, Fireblocks provides infrastructure and tokenization services, and transactions are processed on Solana.

More than 90 participating banks and credit unions in North Dakota can use the coin for bank-to-bank transactions, accessing it through Fiserv's Commercial Center online banking system. VersaBank handles minting, burning, custody and reserve asset management, while the Bank of North Dakota uses the platform's issuance, reserve, custody and settlement infrastructure.

Fiserv said the platform also supports stablecoin card issuance, cross-border payments, programmable commerce, treasury automation, tokenized deposits and US dollar accounts for financial institutions worldwide. Sunil Sachdev, Fiserv's head of embedded finance and digital assets, called the launch “an important milestone for Fiserv and the financial institutions we serve.”
