Coinbase began offering short-term crypto price prediction contracts to US users on October 6, The Cryptonomist reported. Customers can take positions on whether Bitcoin, Ether, Solana, BNB and other assets will rise or fall within windows as short as 15 minutes. Positions can be funded with US dollars or USDC.
Each contract is binary: a correct call pays $1 and a wrong one pays nothing, with no partial payouts. The contracts run through Coinbase Financial Markets, a CFTC-regulated entity and member of the National Futures Association. Availability is not universal; Nevada residents are excluded, and some other states also lack access.
The product extends Coinbase's push into event contracts. Its earlier prediction offering, powered by Kalshi and focused on sports and politics, launched on December 17, 2025, as part of the company's plan to become what it calls an everything exchange. Coinbase has not released volume or adoption projections for the new contracts, and the short time frames have raised concerns about overtrading.
