SOFIA, Bulgaria, Oct 30, 2026 — Self-custodial wallet developer Ambire today introduced Ambire Ice, an open-source hardware wallet designed for Ambire and Safe smart accounts. The device is aimed at multisig operators, DAO treasuries and experienced Ethereum users who need to read and verify complex transactions before approving them.
The central feature is clear signing on the device itself. Ice decodes Safe transactions into their individual actions and flags changes to owners, signature thresholds or modules, the settings that determine who can move funds from a multisig. Ambire also describes a post-quantum upgrade path: a future post-quantum signer could be added as an extra Safe owner, subject to further development and network support.
On the hardware side, Ice combines two secure elements, from NXP and Infineon, to resist physical attacks. A physical airgap switch cuts USB data and Bluetooth power at the hardware level, so users can sign offline using animated QR codes. The firmware is a fork of Trezor's open-source code, and a transparent enclosure lets owners inspect the components.
Preorders are open for an initial batch of 200 devices, allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. The list price is $150, while the first round is offered at $119, including a $10 deposit. Ambire expects shipping to begin in early 2027.
Ambire Wallet is an open-source, self-custodial wallet that supports smart accounts on Ethereum and EVM networks such as Base, Optimism, Arbitrum, Berachain and Zircuit. It offers EIP-7702 accounts, hardware wallet support, transaction batching and simulation, and gas payments in stablecoins or ERC-20 tokens, and is available as a web app, a mobile app and a Chrome extension.
