Aerodrome and Velodrome, the decentralized exchanges that operate on Base and OP Mainnet, have merged to launch Aero, an onchain spot exchange. Aero goes live on Ethereum mainnet, Base, Robinhood Chain, Ink, OP Mainnet, Arc and Arbitrum, bringing both exchanges' operations under one platform. According to the project, those seven networks together handle about $120 billion a month in DEX trading.

Both exchanges enter the merger as market leaders on their home chains. Aerodrome accounted for 58% of DEX trading volume on Base in the third quarter, while Velodrome held 60% on OP Mainnet. Existing AERO and VELO tokens will migrate to a new AERO token, and vote-escrowed veAERO and veVELO positions will convert to sAERO.

Aero introduces Predictive Allocation, which lets AERO stakers direct liquidity reward budgets toward markets they expect to generate revenue. A feature called Metaswaps is designed to connect trading across networks using existing onchain liquidity. Slipstream V3 adds dynamic fees that rise when markets move fast, along with MEV capture on supported Layer 2 networks.

Alex Cutler, founder and CEO of Dromos Labs, which develops Aero, said 100% of the exchange's revenue goes to people who stake AERO. In the announcement, Cutler said every market is coming onchain and that any institution that can be distilled into code will be.
